Karen Svites
Recognized as one of Asheville’s most hilarious, talented vocal artists, Karen Svites continually spreads laughter and fulfillment to her audiences.  Karen most recently appeared as Sister Genevieve in Asheville Lyric Opera’s production of Suor Angelica.  Ms. Svites has also performed the roles of First Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Elsa in The Sound of Music  and Flora in La Traviata.  She is the co-founder of Opera Creations, a local company that specialized in educational opera for youth and improvisational opera comedies.  Karen has appeared in the roles of Yum Yum in The Mikado, Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance, Madame Goldentrill The Impressario, and Casilda in The Gondoliers; all shows which she collaboratively produced.
Ms. Svites premiered the role of Young Estelle in Estelle and Angelo and also performed many roles within the Fletcher Opera Institute and Piedmont Opera.  These roles include Tatyana in Eugene Onegin, countess in Rigoletto, Beauty in Giannini’s Beauty and the Beast, Nena in Lo frate ‘Nnamorato and Serpetta in La Finta Giardiniera.  She performed to a sold out audience as Maria in The Little Theater of Winston-Salem’s production of The Sound of Music.  In recital, Karen has been a guest artist at the Manteo Festival Park, Washington, D.C. England, Italy, Wilmington, Williamsburg and Piedmont triad areas.
The Maryland Distinguished Scholar Finalist holds a B.M. and M.M. in opera performance at University of the North Carolina School of the Arts.  She was a recipient of the Dean’s Scholarship and Chancellor’s Scholarship Award for Excellence.  Karen served as adjunct professor at Elon College along with private voice studio in Winston-Salem.
And as a realtor, Karen helps people purchase and sell their homes in Western North Carolina.  Most importantly, she spends any other free moment adoring her daughter, Lydia Violet.
